MOORISH CASTLE

DESCRIPTION:

Visitors to the Moorish Castle can walk around the fortress amid huge boulders and sheer cliffs, admiring the views over a unique landscape stretching all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Located on one of the hilltops of the Serra de Sintra, this irregular-shaped fortress was built in around the 10th century after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula.

It was subsequently enlarged during the Christian reconquest.

The Moorish Castle is in the way of the Pena Palace road, a one way direction road, so it should be your first visit.
It's high point is the King's D. Fernando Tower, his favorite spot at the time, it's a hard climb by a medieval wall, but we guarantee will be worth it. Fantastic views of the Atlantic coast and the Pena Palace standing on the top of the hill are waiting for you.
