ARCH OF THE AUGUSTA STREET

 

DESCRIPTION:

 

Recently opened to the public, now restored and with access to a viewpoint that offers visitors a unique panoramic view over the city.

Accessible by a lift, whose entrance is located on Augusta street, the gazebo that sits on the top of this monument offers a breathtaking view of the Palace Square, the downtown, the Cathedral, the Castle of St. Jorge and the Tagus river.

Inside, visitors can also learn about the history of Lisboa's triumphal arch, from the start of its construction after the earthquake of 1755 until its completion in 1875, through an exhibition in the "Sala do Relogio".
